Invest, Expand, and Defend Amtrak

Take Action to Defend Amtrak Today

Amtrak connects communities, supports good union jobs, and offers a cleaner, more reliable way to travel. But it can’t thrive without public investment and public pressure.

Millions of Americans rely on Amtrak to visit family, commute to work, or travel affordably across the country. Yet decades of underfunding, corporate freight interference, and policy neglect have kept our national rail system from reaching its full potential.

We believe in:

  • Reliable, on-time trains

  • More frequent and affordable service

  • A fully funded national rail network

  • Clean, safe trains maintained by union workers

  • Strong labor rights and job protections

The “restructuring” of Amtrak will have consequences on both rail labor and passengers in the United States. Our concerns of privatization are unfolding in front of our very eyes. It is no secret that the federal government has plans to gut public transportation and turn over as many assets as possible to private, unaccountable industries. The information in Project 2025 explains their ultimate goals, and the AFL-CIO created this
informative website to explain the impacts on transportation and other public institutions.

We have two actions in this campaign:

  1. Write a letter to the Department of Transportation and the Amtrak Board of Directors opposing the restructuring of Amtrak.
  2. Send a message to your Congressional Representative to defend and fully fund Amtrak.
